Two years ago I saw the movie of the book The Kid Runner . I really like the story and the contents of the movie remained in my head. The image of the movie came back in my mind, selfless and cowardly Amir, honest Hassan, those who serve Amir. They led two very different lives, although they have the same father. Summary

The main character of the book is Amir, the son of a very rich man in Kabul, Kabul is a city in Afghanistan. The story takes place in 1975, when Amir is 12 years old. Amir has a very good relationship with Hassan, the son of his housekeeper-Ali, because they grew up together and brought by the same min. According by the old tradition, when two babies being raised by a same min, then they are forever family. But he never dares to call him a friend, their origins and their faith are totally different. The atmosphere at home is not always cheerful. Baba has a disappointment in his son Amir because Amir is quite different than he had expected. Amir loves of reading and writing, while his father wants his son a good athlete, as he was before. Amir sometimes is thinking that his father hates him because his mother is deceased during childbirth. For most of the time Amir playing together with Hassan. Every time the problem arises, Hassan is always standing up and tries to protect Amir.

Hassan also does everything for Amir, his motto is: For you, a thousand times over. That means doing everything for Hassan and he always will. The same year, something terrible happened to Hassan. During a traditional kite festival Hassan is raped by Assef and Amir has no courage to save Hassan, because there are three opponents. Amir has regret for Hassan and he can no longer live with Hassan, because of the shame and regret deep in his heart. He accuses Hassan of stealing his money and his watch, he is hoping his father will send Hassan and Hassan’s father away. Shortly therefore burst the war out and Baba flight to America with Hassan. Hassan meets Soraya in the United States, Hassan will marry her and forms a new existence. After 26 years, the most reverence uncle of Amir, Rahim, asks Amir to come back to Afghanistan, to save the son of Hassan so that he can pay back something to Hassan and free themselves from the shame and regret. Meanwhile, he discovered that Hassan actually an illegitimate child of his father. Finally he brings Hassan’s son Sohrab back and adopt Sohrab.

First personal reaction

“The kite runner” is a very good book, I am thinking to put: Is there in the reality real kind of people like Hassan? He takes all debts of Amir and selfless devote to Amir. Even when Amir accused him of stealing, he recognizes it, so that the father of Amir no further disappointment of his son gets. I’m also shocked about the situation in Afghanistan. A man sold his leg to buy food for a few weeks and he does it only for his family! The way how Taliban mistreated and tortured the People. I also feel pathetic for Hassan. He gives so much for Amir and Amir finds him but a successor and obviously not a friend. He has been through so much misery and yet he is always cheerful and makes still worry about Amir. Hassan’s end is bad, he is with his wife shots by the Taliban. The book is also very instructive: Never make a mistake which you will shame and regret for the whole life. Not everyone has the chance to make good the wrong things. When someone behaves like a brother to you, even though you have a totally a different origin, nationality, religion, then you need to hold him and not break the relationship after you made a mistake. Nobody is obliged to be good for you, except your parents. Finally I find it a valuable literary work, this has nothing to do with the celebrity of the book, but has to do with my own experience with this book.

Book assignment

Similarities and differences between the movie and the book and how I am thinking of :

The film edition of ‘The kite runner’ was published in 2007. Below are the actors:

Khalid Abdalla Amir as a adult

Zekeria Ebrahimi Amir as a child

Homayoun Ershadi Baba

Ahmad Khan Mahmidzada Hassan as a child

Ali Dinesh Sohrab

Atossa Leoni Soraya

Shaun Toub Rahim Khan

– There are many similarities and that I obviously cannot list them all. It is Commendable that the editor has almost everything literally taken from the book for the film. This is definitely good news for the readers and for me.

– The most important difference between the book and the film is the way of telling. The book explains everything from the corner of the main character. It usually runs to the mental activities of the main character while the film is not the case. Although that Amir is still the main character, but we as spectators can the psychological world of Amir not touch. We can only find out what Amir feels and thinks by the emotions and behavior of Amir. I find this a less successful side, because the sensational effect decreases. The book is a novel that to tears strong men and this is not the case in the film. However, I find the movie very interested, because all the main events of the book are removed and true to the original.

– I am annoying of the plot that goes about Hassan which is sexual assault by a boy.. The film is much clearer than described in the book. The book only with vague words describe what Hassan has experienced, while in the film a very clear picture display summarizes what Hassan has experienced. I think it unbecoming in a movie, maybe the editor wants that viewers have a deep impression, and then compassion to Hassan and making the movie more exciting. Yet it is not the best way to view, because there must be many people under 18 who have seen this film.

– The last part of the book has not appeared in the movie. The book describes the authors that the main character Amir has rescued Hassan’s son Sohrab and that he wants to adopt Sohrab. But it is very difficult to adopt an Afghan child without proof that the parents of the child are deceased and that child is becoming an orphan. Therefore he cannot get a visa of America and he cannot adopt the child. There are two solutions to solve this problem: Amir must stay with Sohrab two years in Afghanistan or Sohrab must stay a year in the orphanage in the United States. After that, he can adopt Sohrab again by the orphanage. He takes the second solution and tells to Sohrab, Sohrab commits suicide (Sohrab has already once been in the orphanage and was abused) and finally he has rescued from the hospital and lives with Amir.

– But all these events you will not see back in the movie. In the film Amir saves Hassan’s son and then they immediately together went to America. There are also many unimportant things omitted, such as omitting the character of Hassan’s father Ali and the fact that Amir’s wife Solaya cannot pregnant.

All in all, the book ‘The Kite Runner’ is a great success book and the film version of it too.

The adventures of Tom Sawyer

Motivation

Why I have chosen this book instead of another one is very simple: the book contains the adventurous elements that I find very attractive. I like reading books that contain adventures for example ‘Robinson Crusoe’ From Daniel Defoe. In addition, the book has a very good illustrations. There are many drawings in the book to make it interesting for the reader. It also gives a clear picture indicating what exactly is happening.

First personal reaction

I find the book “The adventures of Tom Sawyer” very impressive. The naughty images of Tom still staying in my head. All kinds of interesting things that he has done is very unique. For example when Tom gets a penalty, he can always think a smart idea that punishing other people do his penalty and other people even pleased to do that en sometimes offers gifts for Tom. Also again Tom and two friends are going together to an island and take no contact with the villagers. What makes people think that they are drowned or something. Then the people give a funeral for them. What I really like is when they are appearing at the funeral. Their families immediately become cheerful instead of crying.

The book is also very instructive. I have learned many things, after I have read this book. Tom and his friends do not like the school, which is also the case with me. But Tom and his friends are smart, active, honest and brave. When they faced with difficulties or evil, they are able to defeat the evil and to overcome the difficulties . Good characters like this I should learn from them. It has put me thinking: since I was young, it does not matter what kinds of stupid things I have done. frankly, who has not stupid things done in his / her childhood? All those beautiful and less beautiful things are just a nice memory of your childhood. It is valuable to have read this book and I will gladly recommend it to other people.

Book assignment number 10

The writer has scooped a world, an absurd world. I must say, the writer can certainly be a comedian. Many events that the main character has experienced are very nice and funny, you may get a stomach ache from all those jokes. But a apart of the humorous purposes of the writer it has certain other purposes. I have noticed that the writer hates the Americans social habits. According to him, the social habits are too old and too hypocritical. The religious rituals have gotten out of hand and the Americans education system is not really working. The author attempts through different aspects to make the real goals clear:

1. the author uses a merry way to make the psychological activities of the children as lively as possible. While ordinary citizens have only a boring and conservative life. Thus, the dull and monotonous life is remarkable. In this way the writer attempts to criticize the situation of the United States around 1876.

2. The story takes place around 1876 in St. Petersburg. To some extent, this village is a microcosm of society of the entire United States. The author uses two ways to noticeable. Through comparison and the exaggeration of the normal events in St. Petersburg. For example the feudal life and monotonous education.

The book also contains many morals, at least I believe so. After reading this novel I’ve learned many things. When I faced difficulties, I should not give up so quickly, but rather active and devise a suitable solution. If I can, I ever will find the way to success. Tom’s experience tells me if I remain cheerful and possesses a dream, ever the dream will realize.

This kind of story fits very with my sense of humor. I think it fits with all of the people. I find it is very funny when Tom got a penalty from his Aunt and he escapes the penalty and let other children doing his penalty. I also really like when Tom Huck says to his friend: “I would like to hear the sound of a dead” and then he just goes to the cemetery. During the funeral Tom and his friend suddenly appearing and they get a lot of hits and of course lots of kisses.
