Natural Treatments Better Than Conventional Products English Language Essay

I recommend that you start with The Alum Hemorrhoid Topical Solution treatment found at the beginning of Home Cooked Hemorrhoid Treatments. This treatment uses a highly potent natural astringent (a substance that contracts the tissues or canals of the body, thereby diminishing discharges, as of mucus or blood) that will shrink your hemorrhoids and set you well on the path to success.

Hemorrhoids are defined as an itching or painful mass of dilated veins in swollen anal tissue. Some of the symptoms are itching, pain, swelling and bleeding in the anus. They are caused by straining when having a bowel movement due to constipation or pregnancy.

With the many home remedies available, you can finally trash the Preparation H, pads and medications that only provide minimally temporary relief for what feels to be excruciating and eternal torture. When the discomfort begins, you don’t want short-term relief, you need a permanent solution that will relinquish your hemorrhoid issues to history, once and for-all.

There are home remedies for just about everything; from toenail fungus, to sunburn, and the distressful and agitating affliction of hemorrhoids.

Tried and true home remedies, some used by the pioneers of our country, can safely resolve most ailments without harmful side effects. They are very cost effective as well, which is great to know with the current charge for prescription medications.

Effective doesn’t have to equal expensive. Your own struggle is likely to have been costly and unsatisfying if you are still searching for other means to soothe your hemorrhoid flare-ups.

Don’t give up when all of the methods prescribed by your doctor have failed. The solutions outlined in this book are ways that have been used by many people throughout the ages with success. With this information, it is finally time to discover the treatment that will work for you.

What makes Natural Treatments Better Than Conventional Products?

Simply, it’s the ingredients. Most of the common hemorrhoid products on the market, like pills, creams and suppositories are made with chemicals that can have adverse side effects. Side effects such as diarrhea, nausea or/and headache. Why take something that is going to make you feel even worse than you already do?

Homeopathic or natural products don’t have any adverse side effects. Also remember that natural remedies, not only treat, but also cure hemorrhoids, while the chemical based products only temporarily help your hemorrhoids. If you use a natural remedy, then you don’t have to worry about having surgery and the risks and complications that go with it.

Once you find the natural remedy that works for you, then you never have to worry about hemorrhoids again. Healing and curing your hemorrhoids has a lot to do with the ingredients that you put into your body. Are you looking for a temporary solution, or are you are looking for a cure for your hemorrhoids?

As we will talk about later, Witch Hazel, Butcher’s Broom and horse chestnut, as well as other natural remedies, are the prevailing ingredients to fix your hemorrhoids herbally. So let’s look at the the ingredients in some of the popular brands that you can buy at your local pharmacy or drug store.

Venapro: Witch Hazel, Horse Chestnut, St. Mary’s Thistle, Stone Root, Krameria Mapato, Arnica Montana, Muriatic Acid and Fluoride of Lime.

Hem-Relief: Witch Hazel Leaf, Horse Chestnut and Ginger Root

Avatrol: Horse Chestnut, Arginine, Oat Straw, Cascara Sagrada, Bilberry, Butcher’s Broom, Mullein, Cayenne and Zinc.

Homeopathic remedies that you can try are Bryonin (a bitter principle obtained from the root of the Bryony plant), Buckthorn (Buckthorn is considered a last resort treatment for constipation, or in cases where soft stool is desirable – such as with hemorrhoids), Aloe and Dandelion.

All of these can be used for constipation or hemorrhoids and can be found at your local health food store.

So it should be obvious, none of the natural ingredients will give you any bad side effects. Be that as it may, looking at the ingredients in Preparation H or Tucks, no matter what type these medications come in, such as gels, foams, pads, ointments, suppositories or creams, you should be worried about the ingredients that are in these medications like: corticosteroids, vasoconstrictors, analgesics, anesthetics, and antiseptics. A vasoconstrictor called Phenlephrine is one of the main ingredients in Preparation H, which increases blood pressure.

Some of the other ingredients are Shark Liver Oil, Mineral Oil and Petrolatum. These are protective ingredients. Ask your doctor before buying any of these temporary fix medications, especially if you have heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and/or thyroid disease because the side effects could be contraindicative.

Most over the counter or OTC medications that you can buy at your local pharmacy or super market are made up of mostly inactive ingredients like: additives, petrochemicals, colorings and dyes. Be aware of what you are putting in or on your body.

Let’s look at the ingredients in a Tucks Pad. Although Witch Hazel makes up 50% of the ingredients, the other 50% are inactive ingredients which are: Propulparaben, Water, Alcohol, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Glycerin, Methylparaben, Propylene Glycol, and Diazolidinyl.

Tucks Suppositories: 51% Topical starch and 49% inactive ingredients: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate and Benzol Alcohol. Anusol Suppositories: Active ingredients are Pramoxine HCl and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate. The non-active ingredients are Mineral Oil, Paraben, Calcium Phosphate, OTeth-2 and Petroleum.

Anusol Cream consists of Balsam Peru, Bismuth Oxide and Zinc Oxide as the active ingredients. Methyl Hydroxybenzoate, Glycerol Monosterate, Titanium Dioxide, Liquid Paraffin, Sorbitan, Stearate and Water make up the inactive ingredients.

The active ingredients in Tucks Ointment are Hydrochloride, Peruvian Balsam, Pramoxine and Mineral Oil. The inactive ingredients are Glycerol Monostearate, Kaolin and Benzl Benzoate.

These are just a few of the common over the counter, medications. Just look at the ingredients and decide what you want to put into your body.

All of these are chemical based, quick-fix medications. Wouldn’t you prefer natural and safe ingredients? Just because there is a long list of ingredients does not make the product better, safer or more effective. The safe and reliable ingredients found in homeopathic and herbal solutions for hemorrhoids are the right ingredients for you.

Less is more when it comes to homeopathic and herbal solutions and in the long run, they are better for you. Now that you have all of the information, you decide which is better.

You Don’t Know Squat?

Since we are talking about the cure and prevention of hemorrhoids, there is one thing I would like to mention that I bet you never heard, or even thought of. One thing you can do for yourself in eliminating the problem of painful hemorrhoids is to change your position when you are having a bowel movement.

I’m sure that when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement, you just go to the restroom and sit right down and begin your business. Why not? It’s the way you have been doing it since you were potty trained as a child. It’s the normal position to sit in to those who aren’t cavemen or cavewomen, wiping their butts with leaves.

Should you sit or squat when you are using the restroom? Does it really matter? It has been proven after all these years of going to the bathroom. We find out now that we have been doing it all wrong.

Really? After all the years following the invention of the toilet seat, we don’t even know how to use the restroom the right way? And because of this, we are prone to problems that hurt our bodies. Problems such as hemorrhoids, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), prostate and colorectal cancer are a few.

All of this is because we sit like kings and queens on the toilet throne, instead of squatting. I know what you are thinking, but it’s true, squatting. I know it sounds weird and seems like it would be uncomfortable when you are doing what you do in the restroom.

So let’s look at the benefits of squatting. After this, you’ll have to go through potty training all over again just to know how to squat. While you are sitting all comfy and cozy on your throne, it’s difficult to understand how you are hurting yourself.

Sitting causes you to strain because the anal canal is all bent out of shape. It is supposed to be in a straight line. Straining while you’re constipated is what causes the hemorrhoid problem. If you squat, it puts the anal canal in the straight position as it is supposed to be. This eliminates all the grunting and groaning from straining.

Believe it or not, sitting to have a bowel movement causes all types of things to go wrong inside your body. Squatting will eliminate these problems. Squatting is a natural prevention for hemorrhoids and other medical problems when it comes to the lower digestive system.

All you have to do now is learn the benefits of squatting instead of sitting. Try it out. It will help prevent hemorrhoids. If you try all of the remedies in this book, you will find a combination that will work for you and end your frustration with hemorrhoids.

Give it a shot. Because all of these options are natural, you can experiment all you want and not worry about any harmful side effects. You will find a remedy that is right for you.

Home Cooked Hemorrhoid Treatments

I’m going to introduce you to an old family remedy that has been created using eastern medical practices. We call it The Alum Hemorrhoid Topical Solution and it is based on the Alum Crystal. It can be found in the form of several different compounds.

Alum powder is simply the ground up version of the crystals. Cranesbill is a plant based powder with similar astringent properties that can be substituted for Alum.

You can buy Alum for a low price in most Asian countries. It is hardly ever used in the west, but isn’t difficult to find in Asian markets around the U.S. and on-line. Cranesbill is indigenous to North America.

All you have to do is dissolve some of the Alum crystals, Alum powder or Cranesbill into a very concentrated solution, then store it in a jar. Mix the Alum crystal, Alum powder or Cranesbill with warm water, in a jar, at a ratio of one to five.

For example, if you use one scoop of the crystals, then mix it with five scoops of warm water. The size of the scoop is going to depend on how much you want to make. You’re going to use approximately one ounce per day, so a pint will last you about two weeks.

Stir it occasionally to help speed up dissolution. Once fully dissolved, you will have a very concentrated solution. Whenever you need it just take a couple of teaspoons out and make a diluted solution that you can then wash your anal rectal area on the outside.

Mix 2 or 3 teaspoons of the concentrated solution into a pan filled with enough water that you can sit in and soak your butt. This is a highly diluted solution. It needs to be because Alum and Cranesbill are quite strong and, as you know, your anus is very sensitive.

Do this for five minutes at least two times per day, usually once in the morning and once at night. Three times a day could work better if you aren’t too sensitive to the solution.

Your hemorrhoids can begin to shrink in as little as 4 to 5 sessions (about 2 days), but sometimes it can take up to several days before the effects are noticeable.

The solution is not to be used internally; it’s a topical solution. The astringent solution is actually shrinking your hemorrhoid. The shrinking of the hemorrhoid means that it is returning to its proper condition and is what causes the bleeding to stop.

This is one of the most powerful solutions for curing hemorrhoids. You should use this method in conjunction with the other relief methods talked about in The Hemorrhoids Solution to maximize your healing power.

There are two general practices that should be adhered to while using The Alum Hemorrhoid Topical Solution along with the other remedies that are mentioned in the book.

First of all, try not to be forceful when having a bowel movement. Straining puts excessive pressure on the anus and irritates hemorrhoids. Avoiding this and keeping the pressure off will help alleviate your hemorrhoids. This is especially true for hemorrhoids due to constipation and pregnancy. Please don’t strain while you’re trying to have a bowel movement.

Next, after you have a bowel movement, take a warm sitz bath to clean and relax your anus. If this is not possible, use some toilet paper dipped in warm water to thoroughly clean your anus.

This is a necessary practice to keep your hemorrhoids from becoming inflamed while following the additional treatments.

We will discuss diet later in the book, but along with The Alum Hemorrhoid Topical Solution, diet is especially helpful if your hemorrhoids bleed frequently.

Sweet potatoes, a vegetarian only diet, and a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water per day are the way to go until the bleeding stops. Sweet potatoes and yams are an excellent source of fiber.

Eat at least 4 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Avoid meats and any products containing wheat. Also, stay away from artificial sweeteners, such as those in diet sodas. They are indigestible and can aggravate constipation. Natural sugars and fruits are alright.

You need to keep your stool soft and give those bleeding hemorrhoids time to heal. So you need to get yourself onto a very strict diet for a little while. This is VERY important.

Combine this with the other methods in this book and your hemorrhoids will stop bleeding. So take these methods to heart, and your hemorrhoid problems should settle down and disappear.

The next home cooked remedy is the Formula 44 Hemorrhoid Compress.

Hemorrhoid Treatment the Asian Way………

Are you sick and tired of trying and failing to relieve your hemorrhoid problems? Are you so tired of failed attempts that you are willing to just live with the pain and embarrassment for the rest of your life?

You DON’T have to live with hemorrhoids! You DON’T have to suffer the itching, swelling or the pain. You DON’T have to spend your money on a doctor to prescribe the wrong medications. Just listen to what the Asians do. They have been curing illnesses for thousands of years with home remedies. Face it; a billion Asian people can’t be wrong.

Asian cultures have natural home remedies for every slightest complaint, and hemorrhoids are included. These ancient remedies are still in use today because they work conclusively. If used as directed they are safe and without side effects.

There are many Asian cures for hemorrhoids, for example, Dong Quai, Goldenseal, Yellow Dock, Psyllium, and Cascara Sagrada to name a few. These medications are specifically for constipation but will cure your hemorrhoids as well.

That being said, it is your responsibility to find the one that works best for your hemorrhoids. You can safely experiment with any of these products to find the one that works best for you.

Here is some information on the products that I mentioned above:

• Psyllium is a bulk-forming fiber laxative. It works by absorbing liquid in the intestines and swelling to create a softer, bulky stool that is easier to pass. It is used to treat occasional constipation or bowel irregularity. Take 5-10 grams mixed in a glass of water every day. You will see results in 12-24 hours. For this remedy you’ll need to drink 2 glasses of water.

• Cascara sagrada is the dried and aged bark of the buckthorn tree. It has long been used as a natural laxative. For this remedy you need to take up to 1 teaspoon a day. For it to work you need to drink at least 8 – 6 ounces of water throughout the day. And it can be used for 8-10 days.

• Dong Quai is an aromatic herb, Angelica sinensis, of the parsley family. It is native to China and Japan, and used for constipation and hemorrhoids. You can find Dong Quai in powders, teas and capsules. If you prefer tea, mix half a teaspoon per cup of hot water.

• Yellow Dock is a plant with broad obtuse leaves and bitter rootstock. It is used for constipation. Take two capsules two times per day.

• Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) is one of the most popular herbs on the market today. It was traditionally used to treat skin disorders, digestive problems, liver conditions, diarrhea, and eye irritations. It comes in tablet and bulk powder form. Take 4-6 grams per day. Use this product for no longer than 21 days.

A couple of other products that you can try are Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan and Senna.

• Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan is used for chronic prolapse conditions such as hemorrhoids, hernia, and varicose veins, or to build the central qi after a prolonged or severe illness. Take 8-10 pills, 3 times a day. The minimum course of treatment is usually 1 month.

• Senna is a natural herb that is used to stimulate the bowels. It is found in a number of commercial laxatives and is used to remedy constipation. There are many other Asian methods in addition to the above herbal remedies.

First, try a cold compress, which is just about anything out of the freezer that you can wrap in a towel or put into a plastic bag and put on the affected area. Do this for 10 minutes, 4 times a day. Follow this up with an external wash of warm salty water. Then apply vitamin E or virgin olive oil to the hemorrhoids.

You can try an herbal compress of Dandelion (know in Chinese as Pi Gong Ying) for only 10 minutes, again 4 times a day will help you with the pain that your hemorrhoids are causing.

Some more natural Asian remedies that seem to work really well are: Cat’s Claw, Butcher’s Broom, Mesquite Bark Tea and Sheppard’s Purse. Now that you’ve started treating your hemorrhoid flair-ups, remember: cause stopped = problem eliminated. Since you know that your hemorrhoids are more than likely caused by constipation, you must find the reason for it.

It is probably your diet. Not only will eating a healthy diet help with your hemorrhoids; it will also help in most all aspects of your life. These products will work, however if you don’t change your diet and lifestyle as well, your symptoms can return.

Use Your Diet as Prevention

As you find the product or products that help with your hemorrhoid symptoms, don’t forget, your diet plays a huge part in curing your hemorrhoids along with the natural and homeopathic remedies. None of these products will work well for long without a healthy and proper diet.

When talking of hemorrhoids, diet and medications complement each other. If you want to cure your hemorrhoids permanently and not just a temporary fix, you must have a healthy diet to go along with your medications.

What this means is, your guts along with your hemorrhoids aren’t fans of an unhealthy diet, because what goes in must eventually come out. There has to be some compromise between you, your diet and your hemorrhoids.

Anyone who suffers from hemorrhoids needs to include 20-30 grams of fiber in their diet each day. This is non-negotiable. It is the beginning to a healthier posterior. You need to start eating bran cereal for breakfast, with fresh fruit and vegetables as well.

This will help prevent constipation, which we know, is usually what is causing your hemorrhoids in the first place. Strive for soft and easy bowel movements. Not to say that you should have diarrhea, that is irritating to the tissue in the anus and rectum as well.

Something else you should try is to avoid too much sodium (salt) in your diet. You know how important water is in your diet and life as well. You should drink at least 8 glasses (at least 8 ounces) of water per day. All this water helps to keep the stool soft for easier bowel movements.

Don’t think you can substitute coffee or soda for water. Water is a key factor, and its 100% natural. As we already talked about, fresh fruit and vegetables are an excellent source of fiber.

Some other foods high in fiber are: strawberries, cherries, walnuts, brazil nuts, almonds, collard greens, turnip greens, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, swiss chard, spinach, black strap molasses, stone ground whole wheat, alfalfa, vitamin K and skim milk.

As you can see, you can have a very tasty diet and still help treat your hemorrhoids. All hemorrhoid sufferers should make sure that their diet isn’t the cause of their hemorrhoids.

Some foods that should be eaten as little as possible are fatty foods, red meat, hot spices, eggs, MSG, alcohol, coffee, foods with animal products, salty food and high protein diets.

Although eating any of these foods every once in a while is fine, if they are the staple of your diet, then you need to change your diet. Eating those foods and taking the natural and organic treatments will NOT cure your hemorrhoids.

Prevention with High Fiber Recipes

You know a healthy diet is half the battle when fighting hemorrhoids. Just because you are ridding yourself of your hemorrhoids doesn’t mean your taste buds should suffer. Here are a few meals, high in fiber, that are delicious.

An idea for a high fiber breakfast:

Sarah’s Applesauce

Ingredients

4 apples – peeled, cored and chopped

3/4 cup water

1/4 cup white sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

In a saucepan, combine apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Allow to cool, then mash with a fork or potato masher. Enjoy your breakfast.

An idea for a high fiber lunch:

Tijuana Torta

Ingredients:

1 15-ounce can black beans, or pinto beans, rinsed (see Note)

3 tablespoons prepared salsa

1 tablespoon chopped pickled jalapeño

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1 ripe avocado, pitted

2 tablespoons minced onion

1 tablespoon lime juice

1 16 to 20 inch-long baguette, preferably whole-grain

1 1/3 cups shredded green cabbage

Directions:

Mash beans, salsa, jalapeño and cumin in a small bowl. Mash avocado, onion and lime juice in another small bowl. Cut baguette into 4 equal lengths. Split each piece in half horizontally. Pull out most of the soft bread from the center so you’re left with mostly crust. Divide the bean paste, avocado mixture and cabbage evenly among the sandwiches. Cut each in half and serve.

Tips & Notes

Make Ahead Tip: Cover and refrigerate the bean mixture (Step 1) for up to 3 days.

Note: While we love the convenience of canned beans, they tend to be high in sodium. Give them a good rinse before adding to a recipe to rid them of some of their sodium.

An idea for a high fiber dinner:

Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili for Two

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 small onion, finely diced

1 small sweet potato, peeled and diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon chili powder

2 teaspoons ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle chile, (see Note)

1/8 teaspoon salt, or to taste

1 1/3 cups water

1 15-ounce can black beans, rinsed

1 cup canned diced tomatoes

2 teaspoons lime juice

2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Directions:

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onion and potato and cook, stirring often, until the onion is slightly softened, about 4 minutes. Add garlic, chili powder, cumin, chipotle and salt and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add water, bring to a simmer, cover, reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer and cook until the potato is tender, 10 to 12 minutes. Add beans, tomatoes and lime juice; increase heat to high and return to a simmer, stirring often. Reduce heat to maintain a simmer and cook until slightly reduced, about 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in cilantro.

Tips & Notes

Make Ahead Tip: Add all the ingredients except the cilantro; cover and refrigerate for 2 days. Reheat, stir in the cilantro and add more lime if desired.

Note: Chipotle peppers are dried, smoked jalapeno peppers. Ground chipotle can be found in the specialty spice section of most supermarkets.

An idea for a high fiber dessert:

Chocolate-Banana Tofu Pudding

1 banana, broken into chunks

1 (12 ounce) package soft silken tofu

1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

3 tablespoons soy milk

1 pinch ground cinnamon

Place the banana, tofu, sugar, cocoa powder, soy milk, and cinnamon into a blender. Cover, and puree until smooth. Pour into individual serving dishes, and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

And In the End….

I am pretty sure you have tons of wasted time and money in the form of medications that didn’t work for your hemorrhoid problem, sitting in your medicine cabinet. Are you in a situation where the pain and swelling is just too much? Are you unable to sit long or even walk around? You don’t feel like shopping for the products that we have mentioned.

You need to get yourself better enough so that you can move around with ease and comfort and then go shopping for your hemorrhoid remedy. One quick way to do this is to apply some ice to the painful swollen area. Ice works wonders.

Then get out and start using the remedies from this book. Start with the advice about the The Alum Hemorrhoid Topical Solution, then try a few of the other remedies in combination. Keep trying different ones until you find the combination that works best.

Don’t forget about the importance of diet. Your hemorrhoids won’t heal if the constipation from poor food choices isn’t considered.

You need to understand that just treating the symptoms i.e. pain, swelling or itching, is only part of the solution. You need to fix the cause of your hemorrhoids as well. When you beat the cause of your hemorrhoids, then your battle is done.
