Philosophy Of Teaching And Learning Education Essay

Having an idea about ones philosophy of education before an educator begins their teaching career is very important. Teachers should already know what they believe the purpose of school should be like. They should know what they expect from their students in the classroom and what role they will take part in with their students. Teachers should be prepared and have knowledge about effective methods of teaching and how they will manage their classroom successfully. They should develop ideas of what works best for them to be triumphant in the classroom and to educate their students to the best of their ability. My philosophy of education is that our students are the face of the future. I believe that as teachers we are a major role in our student’s lives throughout their years of development. Every teacher has a special calling to become a part of every student’s life throughout each generation. How effectively teachers can educate their students today can help the outcome of our economy and society later on in life. The students learning today hold our society’s future in their hands. With this being said, it is important to teach and prepare our students for a better and brighter future. Teachers can help their students become motivated and successful life-long learners. Every teacher needs to be enthusiastic and have a passion for the subject that they are teaching. The environment of their classroom should be fun and welcoming to make the students feel comfortable.

I believe that the community of the school should be welcoming and work together as a team. The school should not only just involve the faculty and staff, but also the parents and the students. Everybody in the school should have a positive attitude to set a good example for the children during their years of development. I believe it is important for each child to feel safe at school and should enjoy coming to school each day. Every teacher in the school community should be responsible for helping the students develop good morals and behaviors. The faculty staff should educate the students with not only the curriculum they are required to learn but also acts of kindness and having a positive healthy development.

As teachers, our goal should be to assist every individual student to their individual level of needs with many different strategies of teaching. Every teacher has their own special set of strategies that they use to instruct their students. Some teachers have been using these strategies for many years and have been very successful. They develop ideas of what works best for them to be successful in the classroom and to educate their students to the best of their ability. Although teachers may develop some teaching strategies and use them for many years, teachers need to be willing to learn new effective ways to teach their students as new generations begin to arise.

In my opinion, teaching and learning should be done in a very well-sorted type of manner. A teacher should know what type of teaching strategies they will be using for their classroom and what type of management plan they will have. Teachers should be optimistic and willing to learn and adapt to new theories of teaching and learning instead of focusing on just one. As the years go by teachers should begin to change their ways of teaching to make sure their student have the best abilities to learn. In our generation today technology is one of the most effective ways that students can learn. Instead of using a common strategy like teaching straight out of the textbook, the teacher should incorporate technology in all of their lessons in some way. Teachers also should adapt their lessons and make them more students centered. Today in the classroom teachers need to focus giving the students more hands on activities and more independent or group work. The teacher should not spend the whole lesson lecturing to the students. Every student is develops and learns differently. As a teacher, I will have many different strategies in teaching to reach each student’s different levels of learning.

I agree with Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence that every child learns differently. According to Garner there are seven different types of intelligence: linguistic, logical-mathematic, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. As an educator, in each of my lessons, my goal will is to reach each one of these levels for every student. I will use different strategies in order to address the different learning style. Another theorist I agree with is Robert Sternberg’s Triarchic Theory of Intelligence. His view of intelligence comes in three main forms: analytical, creative, and practical. Every child is unique and may learn through visual learning strategies or they may learn through hands on activities. On the other hand, some students may learn best through visual, audio, and writing. I will address all of these techniques of learning in my lessons everyday to make sure each student learns to the best of their ability.

Although each student learns differently, I will always have high expectations for all of my students. I expect my students to always give 100 percent in the classroom and to always try their best. I expect the best from all of my students. They should enter my classroom with a positive attitude and ready to learn. What I model for my student is how I expect my students to act. I will not disrespect my student and I expect them not to disrespect me. I will show up to school on time and prepared to teach my students each day, so I will expect my student’s to do the same. The students should put effort in the work they do and it is always expected to be turned in on time. My students should know that if they do not understand something I want them to ask for help. The students in my classroom should always feel comfortable coming to me about anything that they may need help with. I would rather my students to ask for help about their work than not do the work at all, because they did not understand what to do. Each student is expected to do their best at all the times. I believe that if the teacher has high expectations for his or her students then the students will strive to do their best in the classroom.

As a teacher, the role I believe they should play in the classroom is to be seen as the teacher but also as their friend. I believe that is it the teacher’s job to create a fun atmosphere for learning. The teacher should set up their classroom with a lot of different materials and manipulatives that will interest the students in learning. The students should be able to develop trust within their teachers. Each student should be able to know that they can come to their teacher for anything. For example, when they need help with a subject, life issues, or just needing someone to talk to. The teacher should never be too busy for a student. As a future educator, I plan to always be available for my students. I feel like children will learn best in an atmosphere where they are respected and valued as an individual. I want my students to know that they can come to me for anything that they may need help with. I will be willing to come in to school early or, even if it required me, to stay late after school. I always will be there for my students. I will show my students that I care for them and want them to be successful in school and have a flourishing future. I will not allow for my personal life to get in the way of my ability to teach. I also will not allow a student to become involved in my personal life.

In order to be an effective educator, the teacher should take part in getting to know their students. Teachers need to know pertinent information about their students on a more personal level in order to help them learn the best they can. If a teacher knows his or her students then they will know what the students are interested in, what their favorite subject is, and even what their strongest skills are when learning. Getting to know your students on a more personal level will help teachers be able to teach their students to the best of their abilities and motivate their students to learn. Motivation is a big part of a child’s learning experience. If the student is not motivated by the teacher then he or she will not be willing to pay attention to the concept that the teacher is trying to instruct. As an educator, I plan to make the material that I am teaching personal, meaningful, and relevant. I plan to relate the information my students are learning to real life situations to help them understand what they are learning is important. It is important for students to understand that what they are learning is useful for them in the future.

I am becoming a teacher to educate students with the knowledge that I know and the content that they need to learn and develop. I will use Vygotsky’s idea of scaffolding to help guide my students to master a concept that they are learning on many different levels. As a teacher, I also will use Vygotsky’s different levels of the Zone of Proximal Development to plan my lessons to reach all of my students’ different learning levels. I will construct lessons that will encourage students to think critically and also build their own knowledge, all effective teachers know that is vital to success in the classroom. A successful teacher must develop well, thought out lesson plans that have specific goals and a way to obtain the learning goal. As a teacher, I will make every lesson plan based upon the Georgia guidelines of the Common Core. I will develop my lessons based upon the students and make them student centered rather than teacher centered. I will have essential questions in each of my lessons to make sure the students reflect on the heart of the curriculum that they are learning. In each lesson, I will have many manipulatives for the students to work with to understand the concept. In my lessons I will incorporate different things such as graphic organizers to help the students organize the concepts that they are learning. My goal is to instruct my students to build their own sense of knowledge by using discovery learning. I will have the students working together in groups or partners. I want my students to feel comfortable with having discussions as a group on the answers they come up with and talk about why the answer is correct. I believe that in group discussions students like to listen to other students rather than the teacher. In my opinion, I believe that students also learn better when they work with one another in a group and discuss the concept that is being addressed in the lesson together as a group.

As a teacher, my goal will be to help my students make that connection as to why they are learning something and how it will help them with their life-long goals. I want to motivate my students and surround them by a fun learning atmosphere. I believe that the best way students will learn is by making the topic enjoyable. When teaching a lesson, I plan to encourage my students in participating. I want to call on all of my students and have them involved in the lecture, even if they are bashful. I want to encourage all of my students to just think about what I am asking them and just try to come up with an educated guess. If they are wrong I want them to know that it is okay to be wrong sometimes that is what the learning process is all about. Students should not have any fear with expressing themselves in my classroom.

My personal philosophy of teaching and learning is based upon many different theories in order to incorporate the best teaching strategies as possible for my students. I believe it is a good idea to stay up to date with the different philosophies of teaching and always do research on new theories about teaching and learning. My learning theory on how children learn the best in school is through cognitive learning. I believe that children learn best through thought, experience and senses. I also believe that the more motivated students are in school, by their teacher and even their peers, it will help them learn better and master the skill they are learning. It is important for children to develop a passion for learning in school by having the motivation to do so. There are many theories and ways to view the way students learn best during their development in school. The two theorists who I base my teaching strategies off of are Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget.

When I am teaching in the classroom, I believe that my children will learn through experiences they have had in the past. I believe that the interaction that children have had with people and the environment plays a major role in the child’s learning process. This belief comes from Vygotsky’s theory that social interaction is a major part of a child’s learning. The surroundings of a child’s atmosphere have an impact on a child’s development of learning. I agree with this theory for various reasons. Children who have parents who are involved in their development tend to be more successful in school. It is important for the parent to be a part of their child’s learning experiences. The students should not just depend on the teacher for assistance with their learning. They should also be able to come to their guardians for help with things that they may have difficult time understanding. With this being said, it is also important for the child’s guardians to begin teaching the child things before the child even begins school. According to Vygotsky language can be the key to help children solve problems. I agree, it is important for children to have conversation with others. Children must use language to converse with others before they can focus on their inward thoughts. Simple dialogue between the child and his or her guardian can also be an excellent key for a child’s learning.

I also believe that children seek to construct meaning and understanding of the world around them through schemas. This theory is based upon Piaget’s theory of learning. Children use schemas continuously throughout their learning experience. Schemas can help children learn by constructing their knowledge of the world. A child develops strategies to solve problems and places it in their schema to remember how to solve the problem the next time it happens. Children can adapt their schemas by processing new information into their brains or just by adjusting their current schemas with more knowledge. I believe that Piaget’s theory is accurate and is a good way to explain how children learn during development. Piaget gives great examples of how the information a child learns is organized and placed into a child’s brain. It is crucial for teachers to help children use their schemas and relate the concept that they are learning to other past experiences. This will help the students comprehend and retain information that they learn more effectively.

As a future educator, I also will address in my teaching styles, the variety of ways that my students will think. Children have the ability to think critically and creatively. It is important as teachers to push our students to think critically, because being able to think critically is an important aspect for productivity in academic learning. With that being said, it is also important for teachers to allow their students to be creative thinkers as well. It is essential for students to be able to come up with different ways to solve a certain problem. As a teacher, I will encourage my students to think in a variety of ways to understand the concepts that they are learning and also to be able to solve problems.

In order to be an effective and successful teacher it takes a lot more than just knowing the knowledge of the content being taught. Effective teachers have to have many different strategies that will help the students learn and understand the given material based on their learning style and level. A good teacher knows and understands about students’ individual and personal needs. Teachers always need to be up to date with their strategies and theories of teaching and learning. They must continuously research information that will make them a better teacher every single day. As a future educator, I hope to always be prepared for any given situation in the classroom. I want to impact my student’s lives and help prepare them for their future. I want my students to enjoy learning and have them involved in a fun learning atmosphere. Our students are the face of our future and what we teach them will help them be life-long learners. Every teacher has a special calling into education. I want to become a teacher to make an impact and change at least one student’s life.
