Schools Should Be Stricter And The Work Harder Education Essay

Education is an essential element for everyone and high school is one of the significant factors in education. High school lays the foundation of studying and it also influences students’ decisions for their future majors or careers. However, nowadays, it is easier to pass classes in high school because many teachers do not want to fail students. Those teachers worry about failing the students, who may lose their motivation to study. Thus, some students pass the classes when they do not even understand what the class is about. It affects those students when they study in the university because they cannot understand about the lectures or they cannot pass the classes. In addition, high schools have lots of clubs or activities and most students join one of them. Some people might say that high school students should attend those school activities, because they will not have the chance to experience them again. Nevertheless, this causes students not to concentrate on their academic work. Students also think that the main event in high school is joining one of the clubs rather than focusing on their studies. Therefore, high schools should be stricter and work harder because this will establish the foundation of knowledge, cultivate good study habits, and help students prepare for their future careers.

First of all, in order to help students succeed in the university, high school is an important step for students to establish their basic knowledge. However, nowadays, high schools do not focus on the students’ education too much. In the article, “No More Pep Rallies,” Etta Kralovec claims that “Learning the basics is often only a by-product of our public education system.” She contends that current high schools have many activities that disturb students’ learning. If high schools reduce those extra activities, students will concentrate on their studies. When they spend more time on their schoolwork, they will be ready for the college earlier. Moreover, having a good foundation in high school is a benefit for students because they do not need to spend additional money and time taking a remediation classes in the university. They can also understand and follow the lectures easily. Thus, they establish a good foundation which is equal to have a good stepping-stone into colleges.

The second reason that high school students should work harder because this can cultivate better study habits. This is my experience when I was in high school. My high school was a private school and it was very strict. The teachers always pushed students to work harder. I remember that school opened some classrooms and offered the instructions for students who wanted to study until late at night, but it was not a requirement for everyone. I was one of the volunteers to study at the school after class, so every day I studied from eight o’clock a.m. until eleven o’clock p.m. for almost three years. I was exhausted after the first three months, but I started to adjust to by the fourth month. My daily life followed this schedule for three years. Eventually, it became a routine in my life. Because of the study training, I already knew what the best study way was for me. It helped me a lot such as I could learn faster than other classmates. Also, I found out that it made me have a good study habit because I would not be distracted by other things when I was study. In other words, I can be highly concentrated on my learning without any other aid. In addition, the result of university entrance exam showed that the students who studied in the school from morning to night got the better score than those who went back home after class. For this reason, I think that when students in the high school, they can cultivate- a better study habits.

Furthermore, high school students should work harder to help themselves prepare for future careers. According to the article, “CSU Freshmen Face Readiness Challenges,” Cynthia H. Cho reports that” Less than half of the freshmen currently in the California State University system were ready for the college-level math and English courses upon enrollment.” It means most students do not have enough prepare for their future careers and majors. Thus, when students are studying in high school, they should start to think and plan about their future jobs. In the meanwhile, they must study harder for earning a higher education if they are pursuit a better job in the future. Even though some jobs do not demand a college degree, they probably request a high school diploma. High school is like a lighthouse, and it leads students to a correct place for studying and choosing their future career. If high schools are not stricter or students do not work harder in this critical moment, it might cause a failure for themselves in their future. Consequently, high school plays a vital role for students at this time.

High school should be strict and students should work harder because it is the key point for students to learn the essential knowledge, to train a good study habits, and to prepare their future jobs. In fact, high school contains all basic factors and it is an important time for everyone. For example, Bill Gates, the richest people in the world, thought he will be a millionaire in the future when he was study in the high school. Thus, when students study in the high school, they already have a sample blue print for their future. However, we still should work harder after we study in the university even master degree. Sometimes people will think that they attend a fabulous university, so it means they are excellent students and they do not need to work harder anymore. It is not absolute right because if they do not keep studying, they still will not become an excellent people in the society. Furthermore, high school is not only the end of our education, but also it is the beginning of earning higher education during our entire life. Therefore, if students do their best in high school, they will definitely gain some advantages sometimes in their future to make their life better.
