Spur is engendered in many community projects that work towards bettering communities that they belong to.
The way Spur looks at their CRS is influenced by the King 2 report, in the King 2 Report it is stated that a company must pay attention to improving their community.
That a company must make it their responsibility to help improve a community or many communities.
The society improving projects that Spur has involved themselves in are:
Tikkun, this is a campaign that Spur supports financially, Spur donates large amounts of money to this campaign because they are, a campaign that works to words helping to support dis advantaged people in South Africa. This is a very sustainable campaign as is has supported many people and has been running for many years.
In 2003 Spur set up an AIDS awareness campaign that’s aim was to teach many people about the HIV/AIDS virus so that they could work against it. This campaign was not sustainable and has not fulfilled is aim as it no longer exists and was not well known when it did exist meaning , it did not help many people.
Masidale campaign is run and headed by Spur. This campaign runs a fun day were it teaches children between the ages of 10-13 life skills and how to deal with certain things in life and self confidences. This is a very sustainable campaign not only within Spur but also to the children that are part of it, because these children learn skills that cannot be taken away from them
Corporate Social responsibilities in Pick ‘n Pay:
Pick ‘n Pay is a company well known for being committed to their CSRs.
Pick ‘n Pay also today run many well known socially involved organizations, which shows that these organizations are and have been sustainable.
These being organizations such as:
STARFISH FOUNDATION, this organization helps support children in orphanages that do not have parents or any other source of support. The organization only works with children in South Africa. This organization is one that is sustainable and has been sustained. This being because with supporting the children they create an environment where the children can learn and be taught, making the children able to sustain their own lives. The starfish foundation is also one that has been running for a long time and helping many orphans in South Africa.
MWEB STATIONERY DRIVE, raise money to provide stationery for underprivileged children as well as collect stationery. This drive is not sustainable in terms of the children this being because they do not guarantee that the child is going to get stationery every year. But in terms of the drive its self it is sustainable.
WORLD VISION, this is a international organization that Pick ‘n Pay is involved in, this organization is made u of a group of Christians who work towards ensuring there is justice for oppressed people.
KIDS INPARKS this is Pick ‘n Pays main CRS organization. This organization works toward decreasing and even eliminating the use and production of plastic. This organization is one that is very sustainable; this is seen in the acceptance of this organization in society. This organization has also decreased the amount of plastic that is used in Pick ‘n Pay. The way this is done is by the green bag solution, Pick ‘n Pay produces material green bags that shoppers can use instead of plastic bags. The organization is very sustainable not only in Pick ‘n Pay but also to the environment. This organization helps decrease the harm that is being done to the environment.
SUNFLOWER FUND is another organization that is very popular in society and is also run by Pick ‘n Pay. This organization helps raise money for cancer patients. This organization would not be sustainable to cancer patients because there is no guarantee that the same patient will always get the funds.
Pick ‘n Pay has many more CRS organizations that they are involved, showing that they are a very corporate social responsible company and their main priority with in the business is not only to make a profit.

This is a very sustainable project that has been running for many years, this is also sustainable within Spur amongst employees, were employees want to be involved on a constant level.
The campaign is also sustainable in the lives of the children involved this is because, these children are taught skills that will help them for the rest of their lives to ensure that they do not have to be dependent on other people to support them.

The Spur Company has defiantly acted on their word to be honest and have integrity and good faith.

Pick ‘n Pay has influenced, helped and contributed in many crises and this is acknowledged by society.
Being involved in social issues shows that pick ‘n Pay is an ethical company that does not believe the only responsibility of the business is to make a profit.
The only negative aspect is that it is evident that not all employees uphold the ethical values of Pick ‘n Pay, meaning that all employees are not socially responsible eg. Employees such as the cashiers, or the truck drivers.
From the code of ethics of Pick ‘n Pay, it is evident that they are a loyal and honest company with integrity, and they are not only interested in ways to improve their company but also ways to improve and give back to their country and society.
Analysis of information, comparisons and opinion:
Both Spur and Pick ‘n Pay has shown their loyalty to their customers and are both involved in the solving of social issues in society.
Spur sponsors extraordinary amounts of money to different fundraising campaigns, to make a difference in society.
Pick ‘n Pay runs and governs many organizations that work towards, improving society, teaching people skills and taking care of the environment.
By comparing Spur and Pick ‘n Pay one can see that Spur is more socially responsible and is more involved in caring for the environment and teaching people and improving their living conditions than Spur is.
Spur only has one socially involved organization that they are a part of but this organization is not run by Spur, meaning that they are not directly contributing and showing an interest in social issues or their social responsibilities.
Pick ‘n Pay shows a direct interest in social responsibilities and encourages employees from Pick ‘n Pay to go out and interact with people within society, making a direct impact and difference.
By Spur not being directly involved in their social responsibilities it appears as if Spur uses being socially responsible as more of a strategy to get a good business image and more customers, than Spur actually being committed and wanting to give back to the people that support them.
So it is evident that Pick ‘n Pay is more socially responsible than Spur is, and has a better image and is better known for being socially responsible than Spur is.
