The Human Resource Development Education Essay
There is an argument going on within the organisation between two employees. Jack says why can’t they just employ an ex-teacher, but Ruben disagrees and says they must get someone a little more qualified. Adults and children have different ways of learning. Both employees have points to make. As we know normal teachers deal with children in primary school and teenagers throughout high school. And adults are totally different. So to argue Rubens point, adult learners differ to children learners. So we must differentiate the two.
First of all children learners are very different to adult learners. There are many different aspects, when teachers are dealing with children or teenagers, they tend to have to know how they learn. So I would say the biggest and main difference is the maturity level. Obviously children learners have a much lower maturity, so they aren’t let’s say reliable and won’t take responsibility to actually learn. Another factor for children learners is their memory, they take time to learn something new. This could be due to the fact that they have a limited attention and concentration span. They cant spend too much time paying attention before their minds start drifting off. Also their motivation towards learning is not always the case that they will be learning but rather for other facts, such as they have to be there or they there to be with friends and so on. Children learners, they generally need adults to direct, give them some direction. Also children learners, learning for them is compulsory, they have to go to school to some point. They take in information without actually thinking about it. Also they don’t really come up with their own ways to learn, others (teachers) do that for them. When it comes to them putting input or giving feedback, their interaction skills are not fully developed yet. So that is what a teacher who teachers children learners has to deal with. So they have to almost have baby them as such in order to get them to learn.
Now adult learners are very different to children learners. Their whole style is different. Again a main difference would be that adult learners have a much higher maturity level, and this is due to them having more experience in life. So they will have the correct responsibility to actually learn. They are responsible enough to take care of their own learning, and will allocate times to learning and even come up with their own style of learning. Only adult learners, because they have more experience and such, they will complain more, whether it be on the topic they learning or how they going about to get them to learn. This could be due to them developing their own beliefs and values towards learning. Adult learning is generally not compulsory, so they will have greater motivation to learn, also they have better developed interaction skills. So they can have more input and give more feedback in the learning process. Adult learners also have different memory patterns, they don’t want
to go through everything they want to get to the point, learn it quickly. And this brings another factor that they want to learn something that will benefit them, they tend to not be so easy when taking in new information, they will question it.
Characteristics of adult learners,n.d).
So as we can see that there are many differences between adult and children learners. So as we can see children are not the same when it comes to learning as to adults. And teachers have to have different approaches when it comes either teaching adults or children. So Ruben would be right when saying they should get someone who is more qualified.
Task 2
The Facility to be used
There are so many different aspects that are affiliated with the facilities to be used when it comes to a learning program. These factors or aspects can influence the learning of adults. So the facilities should be arranged according to what is being taught or the needs of the organisation.
Since this organisation is a rather large manufacturing company. And since the want to do literacy training for the workforce and the company is large. There must be a large number of employees in the workforce. So I would suggest that we do off-site training. Meaning doing the training at another location. With such a large workforce it will be in their best interest to find a place that will suit their needs of accommodating many people. Also the facility will be cheaper in the long run as they will be able to select somewhere that can cater for them. The room should be designed in such a way that it will encourage learning. The room should not have widows as it might create a distraction, there should be adequate lighting. There should be decorations of the topic of training all over the walls. There should be white boards that can be used for notes. Make the room great so people want to learn. Also the seating arrangements should be done correctly where all the people can see the trainers and any screens or broads they using. They tables shouldn’t be school children ones; instead tables where a few people sit but they not cramped, but yet can still work and interact. So all this will be put into place for the training program. With literacy training they have to be motivated and not get bored. So if the facility is done in way that will be good but good for this training then we will have one part towards success. And that is why I suggested off-site, people will be motivated if it’s almost like a day away from the work place.
The KSA’s of the Trainers
As we know KSA’s mean Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes. These have to be specific for the trainer we will require to train our workforce on literacy. So the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes for the trainer are:
Knowledge- obviously the trainers must have knowledge on the topic that will be trained, so the trainers must have a well developed knowledge of literacy and all aspects of literacy, from reading and writing. Also they have the required knowledge that they will be dealing with adults and their learning styles are way different to children. So they must know how to teach adults, understand how their learning ways are. So therefore, they must have extensive knowledge of how to convey what is being taught, so the instructional methods that is best suited. This could be lectures and discussions, broad presentations and give them case studies that will help increase their literacy.
Skills-their skills have to be very good as they will conveying information to a large group. So they must be able to interact with the learners, allowing plenty of discussions and questions to be done. The information must be taught in a structured way. Also as we are wanting learners to be motivated, they must be lively and present themselves to the others in way that they want to listen to what they going to say next. So those are very important skills they must possess.
Attitudes – we want passionate trainers who want to help others by teaching their knowledge to others.
