The reflection paper

Abstract

Today, most of us perform the same activities over and over again such as work, eat and sleep. You might say that is how life cycles. However, this lack of relaxation and enjoyment can cause people to be depressed and bored with their lives. I believe that not enjoying life is one of the biggest problems growing in our society today. No one takes the time to do things that they enjoy or do things that make them happy. Life is short and may end up someday. We have to realize that we have to fulfill our life with happiness and joy. The two movies that we watched in class, “Tuesdays with Morrie” and “The Bucket List” are an excellent example of living life to the fullest.

Tuesdays with Morrie and The Bucket List

Life is short. In fact, many of us do not know our faith. In life, you have to find someone that inspires you and influences you to live life to the fullest. The movie “Tuesdays with Morrie” Morrie, was about a relationship between a man and his college professor. This movie captures the compassion and wisdom of an unselfish man who had a great heart and who lived his life to the fullest, up until his death. Mitch, also known as the college student, is a sports writer who gave up his dream of becoming a musician for a life of money, success and materialism. After graduating, he realizes that he is not enjoying life to the fullest. With Morrie next to him, he has learned how much of his life he has consumed in his job, and after listening to Morrie’s theories, Mitch finds his life quite meaningless. In addition, Morrie helps him see the man who he wishes to become. When Morrie died, Mitch finally learned the true meaning of life and death.

On the other hand, “The Bucket List”, two men, Edward Cole and Carter Chambers are terminal cancer patients with six months to live. They are both different persons; Edward Cole is a multi-millionaire and Carter Chambers is an auto mechanic. After the men were angry with their outcomes they learned that depression was not going to solve anything. Instead of being angry with the news they received, the two men decided to come up with a list that include all sorts of things they want to do before they died. With that said, the two men go sky-diving, car racing, they explore the world, stare at the Egyptian pyramids, live in an Italian villa and go on to visit the Himalayas. In conclusion, they viewed their deaths as opportunities to live the lives that they always dreamed of.

In the two movies above, all of the characters profit from their relationships. In Tuesday with Morrie, Mitch and his professor make a strong bond together. Mitch sees his professor as a mentor because he makes him realize that his life is meaningless and Morrie helps him change his life with his theories. In The Bucket List, two strangers meet in a cancer ward and they realize that they only have six months to live, so they spend their time together enjoying life to the fullest.

Life only comes around once. Life is to be enjoyed and not to be wasted it with something that you do not enjoy. In the movie, “Tuesdays with Morrie” Morrie said “We really don’t experience the world fully, doing things we automatically think we have to do. When you realize you are going to die, you see everything much differently.” Most people are afraid of death; some of them avoid talking about this issue. However, if people have the awareness that their death may come at any moment, they will more cherish every moment they have, just like Cole and Chambers. Death is unexpected, so we have to enjoy our lives because if you do not enjoy life to the fullest and when that day comes, you are going to regret it.
